Spiritism: Bridging Spirituality and Health

Opening Comments
I have been coming to the center now for 4 years. I come to study groups and healing treatments. I go home a try to put into practice everything I learn from the books and the people at the center. I have seen so many changes in my life that I attribute to things I have learned about Spiritism, that it keeps me coming back and wanting to know more.
We all come here every week and listen to a topic, meditate, then we go in for a healing treatment, then we go home. Maybe we study some books on Spiritism by Allen Kardec, or by Chico Xavier or some other books that may interest us from the library. Maybe we come to one of the study groups at the Center on Thursday or Saturday.
When I come to the Center I meet other people trying to put the Spiritist principles into practice. Doing this inspires me to keep trying to live by the principles of Spiritism that I learn here - how to do good, be kind, think positive thoughts, let negative thoughts go, forgive, do not judge and love, be humble and grateful and thankful for all the lessons that come our way so we may continue with our spiritual development.
On Fridays I come here to the center and get a healing treatment, but the minute I walk back out that door, I need to keep my energy up and my thoughts and actions positive and uplifting. I need to do my part. The workers of the house and the spirits assisting in our healings each Friday can help us by doing their part, but then we have to continue and do our part. I have been learning that we are each responsible for our own health.
What I am learning more and more is that if I don’t keep practicing when I am not at the center, then the spiritual treatment I get on Fridays goes away, and I have to start all over again.
Two weeks ago I found a story on the web about doctors in the US who are starting to incorporate Spiritism knowledge and practices into their treatments. And I found out that these doctors were a part of groups in the US and 7 other countries where there were similar groups (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Guatamala, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United States). There was movie made by a couple of these doctors that described how spiritism practices were being used in spiritist centers and hospitals in brazil where patients are being treated as a whole – treating body, mind and spirit. I would like to share this movie with you tonight.

"This ground-breaking film reveals practical details of spiritual healing in Spiritist Centers adn hospitals in Brazil and the USA. You see the colorful Fulni-O Indians communing with spirits. then, you meet Spiritist doctors, leaders and patients who illuminate what Spiritism and psychic mediums are all about. You witness the secretive, gentle process of releasing mental patients from obsessions -- which has helped severely ill patients return to normal life and you see a from of laying-on-of-hands Spiritist use to help patients heal from degenerative diseases, addiction and depression.
20 to 40 million Brazilians make use of Spiritist Centers because the therapies are so effective. We invite you to contemplate if these approaches can help our ailing health care system."
